Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church
134 Blessed Years
Planting Today for Tomorrow's Harvest
In 1892, the land was purchased from Mr. Shadrack Robinson by Mose and Sanders Tindal who were Trustees of Chapel A.M.E. Church in Paxville, and a church building was erected. On November 25,1892 under the direction of Bishop W.D. Chappelle and pastor Rev. M.S. Gamble, the cornerstone was laid, and the church was named Chapel A.M.E. Church.
During previous years it has been our privilege to work with many pastors who have inspired us and helped to make our church the wonderful dwelling that it is today. Notables: Rev. D.J. Wilson, Rev. Thomas, Rev. Bradley, Rev. Jamison, Rev. Duvall, Rev. Frazier, Rev. Morant, Rev. Tarleton Gamble, Rev. Enoch McQueen, and Rev. Jack Dais, who was appointed to us in November of 1967 by Bishop Gibbs. Rev Dais saw the great need for a new tabernacle in which to worship the Lord and under his leadership we succeeded.
In 1970, the foundation was laid for our present church, and the laying of the stones was completed in 1971. We proudly moved into our new church on Easter Sunday, 1972. Since that time, we have had many other pastors to minister to us, such as Rev. Gaymon, Rev. Huggins, Rev. Barr, Rev. Morris, Rev. Cooper, and Rev. Anderson. With the help of the Almighty God, under the leadership of the late Rev. William Scott and his wife Sis. Ipanna, the fellowship hall was completed. Later we were able to compete the brick work on the outside of the church. Under the leadership of Rev. Roberta Montgomery, we continued working to make this church a welcome place of worship.
We know that the Lord of the Harvest will send laborers into the vineyard to work with our newly appointed pastor, Rev. Cherylon Y. Fogle, by Bishop James L. Davis of the 7th Episcopal District on November 1st, 2025, in the continual building of the Lord’s House through the Grace and Mercy of our Lord and Saviour Jesus the Christ!
